| Departmental Life: Introduction | |
|
The Department of Criminal Justice consists of six full-time tenured or tenure track faculty, one permanent part-time faculty member, and several adjunct faculty. Each member of the teaching staff has not only impressive educational credentials, but also direct professional experience in the subject matter taught. Because of this, the Criminal Justice program offers students both theoretical and practical approaches to the subject matter. In addition, each full-time faculty member is also an academic advisor. Students are assigned to an advisor in the first semester with the Department, and may consult with that advisor during office hours, by phone, and by email. The Department works closely with students to ensure that they are on track for graduation, and that their academic choices support their career goals. We are a closely knit faculty, and work together to provide the very best education possible for our students. The faculty meet each month during the academic year to discuss issues relevant to the growth and evolution of the Department. In addition, the Department sponsors campus speakers, campus events and special seminars on current events. It is a lively Department with discussions and debates occurring not only in the classroom, but in faculty offices and hallways. We include our students in our professional research projects whenever possible, and invite them to the professional conferences we attend throughout the year. Students can enhance their educational experiences by participating in professional projects and events with the faculty. In this way, we hope to provide our students with a well-rounded, holistic education. |
