The Mission Statement of the West Chester University Business Program West Chester University provides a high-quality undergraduate and graduate business education to students from Pennsylvania and the broader region. The program also provides the business and non-profit community with consulting, continuing education, and other outreach services.

The Mission Statement of the West Chester University Undergraduate Business Program West Chester University provides a high-quality undergraduate and graduate business education to students from Pennsylvania and the broader region. The program also provides the business and non-profit community with consulting, continuing education, and other outreach services.

The undergraduate program offers students the knowledge, skills, and values consistent with success in a dynamic global community. Knowledgeable, accessible faculty members provide student-centered learning experiences. Faculty engage in scholarly activities related to teaching, their field, and/or community issues. The undergraduate degree program provides Pennsylvania businesses and non-profit organizations with employees who are able to:
  • Critically analyze a business problem and develop a defensible solution;
  • Use quantitative methods and technology to analyze business problems;
  • Effectively communicate information of a business nature through written and oral presentation;
  • Effectively interact with others as part of a team;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic business concepts; and
  • Understand the importance of ethical decision-making.

The Mission Statement for B.S. in Accounting The mission of the Accounting Department is to provide quality instruction, advising and academic services to students enrolled in business programs. For the Accounting major, the department prepares students to enter professional accounting practice by providing the skill and knowledge necessary to perform competitively in national certification examinations. In support of our mission, we encourage faculty to maintain professional certification, to participate in professional education activities, and to stay current with the latest developments in business and accounting. We encourage a commitment to life-long learning for our faculty and students.

Specifically students will be able to:
  • Understand the fundamentals of auditing.
  • Understand the fundamental concepts of financial reporting.
  • Understand the fundamental concepts of federal taxation.
  • Understand the use of excel spread sheets.
  • Understand the weaknesses in the financial accounting reporting process.
  • Understand foreign currency translation and transactions.
  • Understand that differences may exist between USA and global
  • accounting practices.
