Faculty Research Fund
| Faculty
members in the College of Arts and Sciences are encouraged to apply
for a College of Arts and Sciences Support and Development Award to
support scholarly or creative activities. These awards are made from
discretionary funds from the Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences.
The maximum award is $2,000. Only permanent faculty members of the
College of Arts and Sciences are eligible to apply. |

Application
guidelines and materials are available on e-mail or in the Dean's office.
All CASSDA Awards are synchronized with the
fiscal year. Fall awards are to be used from January 1 to June 30,
and Spring awards are to be used from July 1 to December 31.Faculty
who receive awards are asked to file a final report and to agree to serve
on the CASSDA review committee in the future.
Funding Guidelines and Limitations
The purpose of the CASSDA awards is to support and encourage scholarly
and creative work by College of Arts and Sciences faculty. These
awards exclude salary and ordinary travel to conferences, but do support
travel for professional development or in order to pursue a particular
scholarly or creative project. Specifically, CASSDA will fund the
following types of activities:
• To attend workshops and seminars to enhance professional skills.
• To purchase small pieces of equipment or supplies related to specific
scholarly or creative projects.
• To support travel for collaboration with a noted scholar or artist.
• To pay for page charges and other publication costs.
• To cover expenses associated with data collection.
• To conduct on-campus colloquia or seminars for the purpose of professional
development.
CASSDA does not fund travel to conferences, travel to present
papers, local travel (within a 50-mile radius), or purchase of equipment
that is not tied to a specific research project. CASSDA does not
fund guest speakers or department speakers series.
Exclusions
In order to make a small grants fund available to a broad range of faculty
and to encourage faculty to use CASSDA awards as seed money, faculty are
limited to receiving one CASSDA grant every three semesters (not including
summer), and are required to turn in a final report on a previous award
before applying for a new one. In addition, faculty who apply for
repeated funding for the same or a similar project are expected to apply
for funding from other sources before applying for a second CASSDA award
for the same purpose.
