The
College of Arts and Sciences offers degree programs in the humanities,
sciences, social sciences, and the liberal arts -- the academic disciplines
that have traditionally defined the well-educated person. These
majors give students the analytical and communication skills expected
of every professional, providing excellent preparation for careers
in business, government, law, medicine, science, communication,
and many other fields.
The College of Arts and Sciences has excellence as its goal. Faculty have regional,
national, and international reputations for research, publications, editorships,
leadership of professional organizations, and grants. They are also dedicated
to undergraduate teaching and seek to involve undergraduate students in high-quality
research, creative, and professional activities. The College particularly encourages
collaborative faculty-student projects that give students "hands-on" opportunities
for creating and applying knowledge.
