Environmental design is an area of psychology that is dedicated to preserving our natural environment. Our culture has a concern for the lack of appreciation that many have for the environment. Many trends have been created to get the inhabitants more environmentally conscious. People are generally beginning to seek more solitude and less activity and to search more in earnest for quiet places and places of serenity.
Ozone layer problems, global warming alerts, and the popularity of recycling and electric vehicle acceptance are all moving us to a new mindset. Instead of concrete, people want trees. Instead of shopping centers, people want green spaces, and instead of crowds, noise, and pollution, people want space, silence, and cleanliness. As these attitudes spread to politics, corporations, and urban planners, environmental designers are finding it necessary to include an environmental sensitivity element to their proposals and plans. They are realizing that landscaping, tree salvation, extensive access to water, and preservation of open spaces are just a few of the growing factors in every plan and budget. Different firms are consulting on how to achieve these ideas and finding a "middle" to which most people can agree to.
