Research is a way for psychologists to make sure their therapy techniques are empirically supported and beneficial to their patients. It also provides a way of testing new therapies in order to determine their effectiveness. The research path is extensive and detailed. First a researcher must specify the topic to be researched. Next the researcher has to review the relevant literature surrounding this topic. This requires a lot of time and can be frustrating at times. After this, variables are defined. The variables are specific to what is being studied and assist the researcher in attaining the outcomes to the study. The hypothesis is then formulated to specifically state what is being researched and the predicted outcomes of the study. After this preliminary work is completed, the actual process of study begins with selecting a research strategy. This will show the methods which will be used in conducting the study. Finally, the data for the study is gathered and then analyzed. Analyzing the results is complicated and particular. This ensures that the research results will produce valid results of the research question.
