SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS
Dr. Robert E. Drayer Endowment. This million-dollar endowment includes money for the funding of student research, student internships, study abroad, and the Drayer scholarships and awards listed below.
Dr. Robert E. Drayer Memorial Four-Year Scholarship. This is a renewable four-year scholarship (in-state tuition, fees, room, and board) awarded to an entering first-year BA History or BSED Social Studies/History student each year on the basis of merit. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications of 1100 combined (verbal and math) SAT score and ranking in the top 40 percent of their high school class. They must also submit a writing sample and letters of recommendation. The scholarship is renewable for three additional years (the years need not be continuous). For the scholarship to be renewed, the recipient must remain a History major at West Chester University, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.33 in courses offered under the aegis of History, and an overall GPA of 2.67. The GPAs shall be calculated after the end of each spring semester.
Dr. Robert E. Drayer Two-Year Full Scholarship. A renewable full scholarship (in-state tuition, fees, room, and board) is awarded on the basis of academic merit each year to a BA History or BSED Social Studies/History major who will be returning to West Chester as a junior. The scholarship is renewable for one additional year under the same criteria stated above.
Dr. Robert E. Drayer Four-Year Partial Scholarship. This is a renewable partial scholarship in the amount of $2,000 awarded each year to one entering first-year BA History or BSED Social Studies/History major on the basis or need and merit. "Need" is determined and defined by the Office of Financial Aid; the minimum "merit" qualifications are the same as stated above. The scholarship is renewable for three additional years under the same criteria stated above.
Helen Tapper Ivins '35 Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate student with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 who is in the BSED program.
Dr. Robert E. Drayer Memorial Award. This award goes to the graduating senior with the most distinguished record in History.
Michael C. Grey Award. This award is granted annually to the junior or senior History or American Studies major who best exemplifies the legacy of Michael Grey. Qualifications include a 2.5 GPA and extracurricular activities, particularly those which demonstrate a concern for humanity. The recipient is chosen by the undergraduate committee based on self-nomination essays.
