X-Ray Diffractometer Commissioned

With support from the Student Technology Fee and the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts & Science, Dr. Kolasinski obtained funding for the purchase and installation of a new Bruker D2 Phaser x-ray diffractometer with a LYNXEYE detector. This means that we now have the ability to perform x-ray crystallography to determine the atomic structure of powder samples with an instrument capable of high signal to noise ratio and high resolution. X-ray diffraction is an essential technique for determining the structure of solids and the chemical composition of unknown compounds. Hence, it is used widely in all branches of chemistry as well as in geology and physics.
