Awards Procedure
(NOTE: Specific Council and EP committee assignments vary from year to year depending on the topic at hand. This description of the procedure uses foreign affairs and environment as two examples)
Every year, outstanding simulation participants will be recognized by the student leadership of the various councils and parliamentary committees. Outstanding members of the representative bodies will be awarded a certificate of merit for the preparation, knowledge, ability to stay in “character,” and their overall substantive contributions to the conference. Please note that students holding leadership positions on the committees or as party caucus chairs and vice chairs are ineligible for consideration.

Selection Procedures:
Commission, European Council, Foreign Ministers Council, and Environment Ministers Council
The outstanding participant for the Commission and each Council will be selected by the entire membership of these respective bodies. Presidents of the various groups are ineligible for consideration. Each group will determine their own selection procedures, e.g. secret ballot, show of hands, consensus within the group. The outstanding Commissioner will be announced at Friday night’s reception while the other award winners will be announced before the simulation’s final meeting.
Parliamentary Committees: Environment; Foreign Affairs
The outstanding participant for the two parliamentary committees will be selected by the committee leadership (chair, vice chair, and rapporteur) and the party caucus chairs or vice chairs within the individual committees. No one may nominate a candidate from their own school. Party and Committee leaders will meet after the first day of meetings to select the outstanding MEP from their respective committees. These awards will be announced at Friday night’s reception.
Plenary Session of the European Parliament
Two outstanding MEPs will be recognized for their work in the plenary session of the European Parliament. These individuals will be selected by the President, Vice President, Rapporteurs and the Party Caucus Chairs. No one may nominate a candidate from their own school. These awards will be announced before the simulation’s final meeting. Please not that there can be no repeat award winners.
