Below are the Admission Requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Marketing. A list of Common Course Prerequisites is also available.
First-Year students will not be admitted directly into the marketing major. Based upon their academic qualifications, first-year applicants may be admitted into either the Pre-Business-Marketing or the Undeclared major. Following successful completion of the requirements listed below, students may then transfer to marketing.
Students who wish to enter the Marketing major, whether transferring from another institution or from another major (including Pre-Business), must meet the following requirements:
Effective Fall 2005 students also are required to successfully complete a Proficiency Exam in the use of Excel spreadsheets.
* Students who successfully complete MAT 108 or 161 as part of the six courses will substitute three credits of free electives for the additional MAT course listed.
Transfer students, from another institution, who do not meet the requirements listed above, may be admitted to the Pre-Business-Marketing program.
Pre-Business-Marketing majors will be assigned to a faculty member from the department who will act as their academic advisor. Undeclared majors will have an advisor assigned from the Advising Center.
Combined with the required general education component of the curriculum, this structure is designed to insure that students successfully complete the course work in academic areas necessary for an appropriate foundation for the study of business, before advancing to upper-division work. This portion of the degree requirements can be completed in two years (or less) of full-time study. Pre-Business majors may not schedule any upper division (300-level or above) courses in any business area.
Entering First-Year students, who follow the sequence of courses outlined in the appropriate Advising Guide, and who schedule and successfully complete an average of 15 credits per semester (30 credits per academic year), should have no difficulty completing their degree requirements within four years. The time required for Transfer students to complete their degree requirements also will depend upon the number of credits transferred, and the number of lower-division courses completed prior to entering WCU.
It is the responsibility of the student to complete a change of major form upon completion of the requiremetns to enter the major.
