Teacher Certification, students with other degrees

Secondary Mathematics Teacher Certification Process

Students, with a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics or with a degree in an area other than mathematics, wanting to become certified to teach mathematics in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania need to get copies of their transcripts from previous universities and then:

make an appointment with the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics to find out exactly what mathematics and mathematics related courses are required. contact the Teacher Education Center in Room 251 of the Francis Harvey Green Library to find out what is required from the School of Education to complete an Instructional I Teaching Certificate.

Graduate students seeking professional teacher certification must complete and submit to the Office of Teacher Certification an "Intent to Seek Teacher Certification" form along with a completed and signed “Approved Program of Study in Mathematics and Mathematics Related Courses” form signed by the mathematics department chairperson.

All applicants seeking Pennsylvania Level I (Initial) certification in secondary school mathematics must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and meet all other program admission requirements.
