Richard Borkowski, B.S. '59

  • Director  of physical education and athletics at the Episcopal Academy in Merion, PA for thirty three years, from 1960-1993
  • In 2005, West Chester University presented him with a “Distinguished Alumni Award”
  • Received his B.S. degree in physical education from West Chester University in 1959
  • Received his M.S degree from Temple University 1961-1966 and his Ed.D. from Temple, 1969-1979
  • Performed extensive research in sports history at Yale University, 1975-1979
  • Involved in the area of sport and recreation safety as an author, speaker, expert witness and consultant for forty years
  • Served two years, mostly in Korea in the U.S. Army as a surgical technician and clerk for a M.A.S.H. unit
  • Started as a center and middle linebacker in football and named co-captain his senior year at WCU
  • Was named to the All Pennsylvania Athletic Conference as a center and  linebacker
  • In 1991 he was recognized as a “Certified Athletic Administrator”. This recognition was based on career achievements and competitive examination
  • In 2003 the National Interscholastic Athletic Association recognized him as a “Certified Master Athletic Administrator”
  • Over 300 of his 400 published articles and stories have dealt with safety and the legal responsibilities of coaches and teachers
  • In 1991, published his first book on safety in sport, entitled School Sport Safety and Fitness, LRP Publications. Published his second book, The School Sports Safety Handbook, in May, 1998. His third book, The Athletic Administrator’s Scheduling Handbook was published in April of 2001.
  • In 1998, he was selected “Person of the Year” by the Inter-AC League. In 2004 he received the “Distinguished Service Award” from the Episcopal Academy
  • In 2010 he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sport Hall of Fame, City All Star Chapter
  • Awards include:  being named Athletic Director of the month by the National Athletic Director, in 1989
  • He was elected into West Chester University’s Football Hall of Fame
  • In 1990 he received a service award from the U.S.A. Rugby Association, the California Interscholastic Athletic Federation, the Utica Mutual Life Insurance Company and the Raymond Keegan Coaching Award from the Episcopal Academy
  • In 1993, Northeast Public High School inducted him into their Wall of Fame
  • He was inducted into the Episcopal Academy Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006

D. Marian Franck, B.S. '58

  • Served thirty four years, 1958 to 1992, as a teacher, coach and administrator at McCaskey High School, School District of Lancaster, PA
  • Received B.S. in Health & Physical Education from West Chester University in 1958
  • 1962 graduate of Springfield College with MS in Physical Education, and Lehigh University 1980 with a M.Ed degree in administration
  • Developer, editor (1977-1992) and director (1992-2000) for the Physical Education-Learning Is For Everyone curriculum project of the Pennsylvania State Association for Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD)
  • Manager of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education of the American Alliance for Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NASPE/AAHPERD) STARS project (2005-2009) to identify Quality Physical Education Programs K-12
  • PSAHPERD President, 1994; Vice President for Girls and Women’s Sports, 1968; Vice President for Physical Education, 1977
  • NASPE/AAHPERD: Middle and Secondary School Physical Education Council (MASSPEC), 1984-1988; Chair, Outcomes of Quality Physical Education Programs Committee, 1986-1992; National Standards for Physical Education Committee, 1992-1996; Assessment Task Force, 1999-2011
  • International  Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation Sport & Dance (ICPERDSD) Writing Committee, International Standards for Physical Education
  • PSAHPERD recipient of the Professional Honor Award, E.B. Cottrel Award, and Professional Service Award

  • President, CEO and director of Endo Pharmaceuticals, Chadds Ford, PA, since 2008
  • Prior positions include President, CEO of Centocor, Inc. 1992 to 1999; Company Group Chairman of Centocor from 1999-2004; and president of Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation from 2004-2008
  • 2000 commencement speaker and recipient of honorary doctorate in public service, West Chester University
  • 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award, West Chester University
  • B.S., Health and Physical Education, West Chester State College
  • Held executive positions with General Electric Company, Corning Glass Works and Abbott Laboratories
  • West Chester University Foundation Board of Trustees; and serves on the boards of the University City Science Center; the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturing Association; and Light Sciences Oncology, Inc
  • Chair, Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturing Association’s Committee for Small Biopharmaceutical Research Companies
  • Past board memberships include: Board of Governors for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education; Biotechnology Industry Organization; Liberty Science Center; Biotechnology Institute; Eastern Technology Council (now PACT-acronym for the Eastern Technology Council and MAC Alliance new name-Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies); and the Cleveland Clinic Industrial Advisory Board
  • Awards received include: 2007 Hubert J. Schoemaker Leadership Award and 2001 CEO of the Year Award from the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry

 

Jan Stephen Tecklin,B.S. '69

  • Professor and former Chairman Department of Physical Therapy, Arcadia University
  • Author , editor of two textbooks-Cardiopulmonary and Physical Therapy and Pediatric Physcal Therapy-each in its 4th edition, total of 100,000 copies
  • Founding Officer of Gamma Alpha Chapter (West Chester University) of Phi Epsilon Kappa, national professional physical education fraternity
  • B.S. degree in health & physical education from West Chester University in 1969
  • Certificate in Physical Therapy, University of Pennsylvania, 1970
  • Advanced Master Degree in Physical Therapy, Temple University, 1982
  • Co-Owner, Dehaven Tecklin Physical Therapy
  • Leader in care, teaching, and research for individuals with cystic fibrosis during his 40 year physical therapy career
  • Full-time work at Cystic Fibrosis Center, Hahnemann University during 1970’s and 1980’s
  • Physical Therapist, Cystic Fibrosis Center, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, 1998-2007
  • Lectured and presented research throughout 4 continents of the world
  • Served six years as Associate Editor of Physical Therapy, national professional journal
  • Two terms as president of Section of Pediatrics of American Physical Therapy Association
  • Professor Tecklin has received numerous certificates and awards during his career including Professor of the Year at Arcadia University in 2005
