February 2008
Dear Douglass Institute Board Member: I am delighted to invite you to attend West Chester University’s Frederick Douglass Institute 8th annual Dr. Patricia Grasty Gaines Multicultural Leadership Award Dinner on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. Please join us for this opportunity to celebrate the growth of the Institute’s brief but extraordinary history. To commemorate this history, the Institute will recognize the educational and civic accomplishments of West Chester University’s President Madeleine Wing Adler, our highly respected educator, leader, and friend. President Adler is retiring at the conclusion of the spring semester, 2008. Dr. Patricia Grasty Gaines regarded Dr. Adler as a friend and a source of inspiration. It is only fitting therefore that Dr. Adler be the recipient of the 2008 Dr. Patricia Grasty Gaines Multicultural Leadership Award. The educational and civic leadership of Dr. Adler affirm and celebrates the values of multicultural leadership with her emphasis on collaboration and creating opportunities for a richer promise of social equality and personal fulfillment. A reception and dinner will be held in the Philips Autograph Library in the Philips Memorial Building beginning at 5:30 p.m. After dinner, there will be additional awards to students and recognition of new academic “firsts” from the Douglass Institute. The cost of the reception and dinner is $45.00 per person. Please complete the enclosed reply card to secure your place at what has become an outstanding and exciting evening. Please make your reservations early. A portion of the costs are tax deductible as prescribed by law. I look forward to seeing you, and I thank you in advance for your continued support of the Dr. Patricia Grasty Gaines Multicultural Leadership Award and of the Frederick Douglass Institute. Sincerely, Dr. C. James Trotman, Director Professor of English/ Frederick Douglass Institute
