Biographical Sketch

After three years as a staff nurse at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, working mostly in labor and delivery, as well as in other areas of maternal and newborn bearing nursing, Robin came to teach maternity nursing here at WCU, integrating women's health throughout the curriculum. In 1980, working collaboratively with Betty Boyle of WCU's Health Dept., Robin instituted the first elective ever offered by the Nursing Department, Health Issues of Women, linking the course with the university's Women's Studies program. Since that time, Robin has increased her linkage with the women's studies program, taking on teaching of the interdisciplinary introduction to women's studies course and creating a course on women and sexuality. Another course currently in development will explore the intersections of gender, violence and health from a variety of perspectives, including the interpersonal and institutional. From 1987 to 2009 Robin taught part-time at WCU while also serving as director of the University's Women's Center. Robin returned to full-time teaching in January 2009 and and has since focused on violence and intential injury as public health issues, with special emphasis on primary prevention. Robin's community based activities focus on political and social action. Most recently she has worked with a small group of individuals to form a chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) here in Chester County. If she had the time and wherewithal, Robin would be simultaneously pursuing three degrees: the MPH, the JD, and the MDiv. She did work on a doctoral degree in the 1980s, but life happened.
