West Chester University's nursing camp provides a positive and realistic image of nursing. Campers are given an overview of the profession, learn beginning nursing skills, and local resources are identified to assist youth in entering a health care profession.
Explore the great challenges and rewards of nursing through mentoring by experienced nurses from the community and WCU nursing faculty. Educational highlights include:
- Experiencing the role of the nurse within a hospital
- Exposing participants to specialties within nursing and healthcare
- Promoting understanding of career opportunities in nursing (education, administration, etc)
- Identifying nursing influence in patient care
- Outlining educational prerequisites for entry into a nursing school
Camp activities include:
- Tour of Chester County Hospital
- CPR, nutrition and exercise, and infection control
- Exploration of nursing specialties (examples include: maternity, pediatrics, and critical care)
- Activities including a scavenger hunt, team building, wound care, and obstacle course
The program fee is $150 and includes a camp t-shirt and hat, lunch, snacks, activity supplies, and educational material.
