West Chester University's nursing camp provides a positive and realistic image of nursing. Campers are given an overview of the profession, learn beginning nursing skills, and local resources are identified to assist youth in entering a health care profession.

Explore the great challenges and rewards of nursing through mentoring by experienced nurses from the community and WCU nursing faculty. Educational highlights include:

  • Experiencing the role of the nurse within a hospital
  • Exposing participants to specialties within nursing and healthcare
  • Promoting understanding of career opportunities in nursing (education, administration, etc)
  • Identifying nursing influence in patient care
  • Outlining educational prerequisites for entry into a nursing school

Camp activities include:

  • Tour of Chester County Hospital
  • CPR, nutrition and exercise, and infection control
  • Exploration of nursing specialties (examples include: maternity, pediatrics, and critical care)
