Opportunity for Free Respite Care!

SPARC, in partnership with Dr. Corinne Murphy (special education department) is offering training to students to become respite care providers for children on the autism spectrum. This training is part of a research grant awarded to Dr. Murphy. We understand that parents of children with autism often are reluctant to leave their child with a sitter who does not have knowledge regarding autism and as a result are often unable to leave their children for even short periods of time. We are actively recruiting families for fall 2008. Students will receive training and CPR certification though the program. During student training, families will be offered one free night of respite care per week (Thursday nights). Families will not pay for respite services during training. However, once training and the program have been completed, students can be hired by families. Families may participate multiple times, dependent on waiting list.
