The foundation for SPARC was laid over more than a decade ago when a Professor at West Chester University, Phillip Duncan, began placing undergraduate students as therapists to work with children with autism. One undergraduate student that Dr. Duncan placed many years ago was Jennifer Dawson. Since that time, Dr. Duncan continued his dedication to behavior analysis and teaching. Dr. Dawson was inspired by her experiences as an undergraduate and has since dedicated her career to working within the field of behavior analysis with individuals with developmental disabilities. Continued collaboration over the years between Drs. Duncan and Dawson and the increased need for high quality services for individuals with autism has provided an opportunity to establish SPARC.
SPARC opened its doors in March of 2007 staffed by just Dr. Dawson. In May of 2007, we partnered with the West Chester University Foundation. And in October of 2007, we received our non-profit 501c3 status. Since then, SPARC has continued to grow with the additions of Cherie Fishbaugh, Mary Duncan, Corinne Murphy, and our students. This fall we plan to expand our staff and hire more therapists and an office manager. Please view our donations page for more information regarding our planned expansion!
