Environmental Health & Safety provides professional advice to university groups in the areas of environmental protection, fire safety, occupational health and safety.

The department is available for inspections, monitoring and analysis of specific problem areas and provides or coordinates a variety of safety and health training. Regular inspections are performed in buildings and EHS monitors all adverse environmental exposures. The department is the liaison for the university with regulatory agencies in the fields of occupational and environmental health and safety and is a service and support unit within Human Resources Services.

Environmental Protection
The Environmental Health & Safety Department works with the Facilities Division and other departments to ensure compliance with environmental regulations which include hazardous materials, storm water, oil spill protection, asbestos, lead, and others.

Fire Safety
Responsibilities in the fire safety area include fire safety training, building inspections, fire drills, fire protection and detection systems, fire prevention and protection policies and procedures, and professional services such as investigations, risk analysis, plans review, and codes compliance.
