WHAT IS WCU DANCE TEAM?
WCU Dance Team is a student run dance organization that performs at men’s basketball games, homecoming and various other campus events. They are currently nationally ranked and compete at UDA Nationals in Orlando, Florida each year. The dance team has elections for student officers at the end of each year for the upcoming season in the positions of Captain, Co-Captain, Treasurer and Fundraising Chair. Fundraising as a very important aspect of our team and will require some extra time.
HOW DO I JOIN WCU DANCE TEAM?
Membership to Dance Team is through auditions. The Dance Team auditions are held twice each academic year. The first audition is held in the spring, typically at the end of April or early May. Those who are selected have opportunity to join the dance team for their annual UDA summer camp. In the fall, during the first week of classes, auditions are held again to complete the team. The team can have a maximum of 22 members.
WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT AUDITIONS?
Dance Team auditions are open to all current and incoming WCU students and take place in the Dance studios (HSC 104) located in the Sturzebecker Health Science Center on South campus.
Dancers are asked to come at least 15 minutes early to start stretching. Each student will fill out an information sheet and receive a number. Auditions usually consist of technical elements such as pirouettes, various leaps, flexibility, and two short dances taught by the Dance Team officers, choreographers or guest artists. Results of the auditions are usually known within a few days of the audition. A list is posted outside the dance studio and everyone is emailed the results.
We ask that those auditioning for the Dance Team wear appropriate dance attire that allows the body to be seen for alignment and performance purposes.
