How do I sign up to audition for the School of Music?
- To be eligible for an audition you must first apply to West
Chester University
- Second; be sure that your high school Guidance Counselor forwards
all pertinent information to the Office of Admissions. Transfer
students must have transcripts forwarded to Admissions.
- After the Office Admissions has reviewed your materials they
will notify the School of Music and we will contact you
to schedule an audition.
I’d like to schedule a visit to WCU
and the School of Music. Is that possible?
- Contact the Office of Admissions to sign
up for one of several “Preview
Days” held throughout the academic year, or arrange a campus
tour & presentation.
- High School seniors and transfer students may call the Undergraduate
Coordinator of the School of Music at (610 436-2650) to arrange
a consultation and/or personal or group interview, as appropriate.
When will I know if I am accepted into the music program?
- Because we only invite those to audition for the School of
Music that are already cleared by the Office of Admissions, you
will usually know if you are accepted to the
School of Music before you leave campus on audition day!
What are the audition requirements?

Can I major in Jazz?
- Yes! However, the Jazz Performance
Degree is a very selective program that is only available
in the instrumental areas of saxophone, trumpet, trombone,
guitar, bass (acoustic and electric), piano, and percussion.

Tell me about Music Therapy at WCU. How does that work?
- This
equivalency program is geared for students enrolled in any W.C.U.
Undergraduate degree in Music. The
program is offered in collaboration with Immaculata College. The
curriculum in music therapy, which is in accordance with the
recommendations established by the American Music Therapy Association
(AMTA), provides eligibility to take the national certification
examination administered by the Certification Board for Music
Therapists (CBMT), upon completion of all academic and clinical
requirements.
If I’m accepted as a Music major at
WCU, can I minor in another field?
- Yes. However, because all music major degree programs are quite
demanding, counseling and subsequent approval from your academic
advisor is required.
