WCU Dance Program Success at ACDFA

Time's Cruel Joke, a choreography work by WCU alum Jillian Glace '08, was selected for the annual gala at the recent American College Dance Festival Northeast Conference held at Penn State University, March 5-9, 2009. This is the first time in WCU's dance program history that this honor has been achieved. Glace's work was one of 10 selected out of 48 works brought by schools with BA, BFA, MA, MFA and dance minor programs.

Dance faculty Liz Staruch and Gretchen Studlien-Webb accompanied 24 WCU dance students to the conference for performances, master classes and adjudication comments from three professional dancer/choreographers. Another student work by Malia Piazza '10, Happening By Chance, was also presented and adjudicated. Staruch and Studlien-Webb taught master classes in folk, jazz and modern dance techniques, and yoga.

West Chester University Dance Company is next in performance on April 16, 17, 18, 2009 at 8 p.m. and April 18 at 2 p.m.. Exploring the Spectrum will present student choreographed works within a variety of dance genres in addition to two new faculty-directed pieces. Performances take place at the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall on the corner of University & High Streets, and tickets can be purchased both at the door and by calling the Department of Theatre and Dance box office at 610-436-2533. Tickets are $8.00 for students/seniors/faculty and $12 for general admission.

For more information, please contact the Department of Theatre and Dance at 610-436-3463.
