Artist's Statement

Artist's Statement

My work is about organic abstractions of structures that originate from Mother Earth.  Whether it is the microscopic investigation or a larger visual field, the structure may be as large scale as a landscape or as small as an acorn.  These forms may allude to architecture, to a southwestern landscape, or to a very intricate natural formation.  They are transposed from my minds’ eye becoming either surreal or abstracted in the process.

With each piece, I focus on the subject matter from different points of view.  From distant to close–up, abstracting it in such a way as to play with the line, color, texture, and light as my imagination sees fit.  Concentrating on the delicacy of the forms and even creating new shapes from within.  Physically, there is a stage set for movement and gesture in my process generating a dance with the different elements of design.

Currently, I am working on abstracted cactus.  The needles of the cacti are exaggerated in their scale and proportion and take on different colors and textures than might be expected.
