SYNE / DISTANT VOICES TOURING THEATER
Distant Voices is a dramatic reading, with piano underscoring, of the diary of Hiroaki Nishimura, written during his experiences as an internee in the Japanese American Internment Camps of World War Two. The presentation details Hiroaki's journey from his day he was interned on Aprl27, 1942 until his repatriation as an American citizen in September 1960. The piece is underscored throughout the selections from traditional Japanese folk songs as well as 19 th and 20 th century compositions such as Gershwin, Copland, Dvorak and Debussy. The SYNE group feel Distant Voices has an important lesson to teach about an era in American history of extreme cultural mistrust, about the common threads of our capacity for inhumanity and about survival and the triumph of the human spirit. Our art work contains contextual symbols that enhance the viewer's interpretation of the drama.

BEN FRANK MOSS
My work is often generated out of a distant memory of a physical setting that becomes a metaphor for a personal truth. My paintings and drawings are built out of an extended exposure to what I have seen and felt, trying to understand what lies beyond the appearance of the natural form. I work totally from memory, with each piece developing on its own. At its best the final statement conveys a distilled sensation of time.

ELAINE CRIVELLI "Unspoken Dialogue"
Having spent ten years traveling to various parts of the world, I have documented each place, its people, culture and event. From a portfolio of photographs, I collage and juxtapose images, select details, incorporate old family snapshots and digitally produce layered, textural composite images. My work consists of a series of digitally produced prints working with the themes of family, relation ship s, cultural histories and the transformation of contextual place.

LESLEY BOWEN "PICTURES of the PAST: LOVE'S LEGACY"
This series of paintings celebrate the life of my mother. The paintings were an important turning point in my artistic career, not only personal cathartic, it was a body of work both creatively and technically exciting while engaged with personal imagery within a larger social context. An extension of the paintings that dealt with my mother is a series of drawings of my father combining many of the elements of my past works. I have combined the poetry of Sylvia Plath and several of my father's poems to my mother during WWI with the images. Art to me is about risk taking and exploring, a never- ending process of discovery.

NEIL DREIBELBIS "ANCIENT SPIRITS/ SACRED SITES"
From the time of Christ, the Anasazi lived in the Four Corners region where Colorado , Arizona , Utah and New Mexico come together. It's where the Anasazi thrived and prospered for centuries until they mysteriously vanished without a clue. During my travels through the American Southwest, I discovered Anasazi rock art, kiva murals, pottery painting, architecture and sculpture. I came to realize the importance of their history and the need for preservation of their irreplaceable antiquities. This body of work is the result of what I saw and experienced through the legacy and spirit of the Anasazi.
